Misbehaving mouse

Help! My mighty mouse Won’t Scroll!

If you have an Apple mighty mouse—like the one shown below—you will encounter, sooner or later, a time when it won’t scroll properly. Usually the problem appears when scrolling in one direction, either up or down, the scroll stops working; scrolling in the opposite direction often continues to work fine.

mighty mouseAs annoying as it may be, it’s not a big problem to fix—especially the first time. Just turn the mouse onto its back and roll the ball back and forth a few times. The gunk inside will be dislodged and you’ll be back to normal. But don’t get too smug about it; the problem will likely reoccur, and over time it may become more difficult to solve the issue.

Here’s an excellent article from MacWorld online that explains all you need (and maybe more than you want) to know about cleaning the ball of your mouse, or as MW chooses to phrase it, Cleaning Mouse Balls.

Make sure you read the user responses at the bottom of their page, providing, of course, you’re able to scroll down that far. The cleaning method I like best is to turn your mouse over and rub its ball back and forth on a mouse pad….
In our opinion, trying to take a mighty mouse apart to clean it is NOT an option.
Read the article carefully! Good luck!
